My morning routine has been a complete game changer for my entire life, and it looks different from what you’d probably expect, which is why I’m sharing the details with you today!

My Morning Routine

The first thing that I used to do in the morning was check and scroll through social media…and then move onto checking my email. As time went on, I started to notice what a massive impact this was actually having on my entire day, and I’d listened to enough podcasts with super successful entrepreneurs to recognize that creating an actual morning routine for myself, which didn’t include any of these things, was gonna be key to my own success.

Now that I’ve created some new habits, I literally cannot think of a worse way to start my morning than with social media, email or the news. There’s a reason that CNN is nicknamed as the crisis news network. There’s also a reason why anxiety is so prevalent in our society today, when it didn’t used to be that way.

As I’ve found for myself, most of us do these things based simply around a habit we’ve created. It’s not even a thought, as our brains are so used to clicking a certain button to get what it wants. You might wake up and hardly even realize that you’re on Instagram or Facebook, because it’s just become what you do first thing in the morning.

The good news is, habits can be changed! If you’re not loving the way that your days flow, or you find that your mornings drain you, then I highly encourage you to give my version of a morning routine a shot!

I 100% get that mornings can be crazyyy for many, but what I’ve also learned is that others will very rarely (if ever) make the space for you to have time for yourself, so it’s something that absolutely has to become your own priority. The more you give to others, the more you need to give back to yourself. No great things are created when you’re drained and burnt out.

This morning routine that I’ve created is now non-negotiable, because I’ve come to the realization that it has the biggest impact on my entire day. What I love the most about it is that it’s so simple, and each day looks different!

My morning routine can take as little as 10 minutes, if that’s what I’ve got. As Tony Robbins says, if you don’t have 10 minutes, you don’t have a life. Trust me, in building my own business, I’ve had days where I didn’t feel that I had 10 minutes for myself, but in reality, that was straight up an excuse.

We all make time for what’s important.

My simple morning routine has just become part of who I am. It’s not even something that I have to put much thought into anymore, and it gets me so excited to get out of bed in the morning. It’s how I guarantee that I’ll have the best opportunity for an amazing and productive day. If everything else fails in my day, I at least know that I did a few things for myself.

My Morning Routine

Here’s my simple morning routine:

Each day, I do 3-5 things shown on the list below – before I open an app, email or text message. Sometimes it ends up being more than 5, depending on how much time I have, and what I feel that I need, but it’s never, ever less than 3.

Often I’ll do some more of these things throughout my day to take a break from work, but the non-negotiable part is doing a minimum of 3 from the list, before I do anything for anyone else. (I also drink water, brush my teeth, and do my simple skincare routine before I start my day, but these are things that I do every single day, so I don’t count them here).

Here’s what I did to create my morning routine: I wrote out a list of things that I love to start my day with (I’m often adding to this list as time goes on), and each day, I choose 3-5 things, based on what sounds the most fun, and what my body needs (which is why extra sleep will forever remain on my list). Having a list keeps me from overthinking it, and instead, just doing it.

I’ve tried sticking to a strict morning routine where I do the same things every single morning, but I quickly became soooo bored, and found myself dreading it. In order for me to stick with anything, I absolutely have to find a way to make it SO MUCH FUN, so that’s exactly what I did for my morning routine!

My Morning Routine (I choose 3-5 daily):

  • Meditate (I usually do 10-12 minutes)
  • Rebound (jump on my mini trampoline – soooo many health benefits!)
  • Yoga, stretching, or mobility
  • Workout
  • Play with my pups (often I take them on a hike, but sometimes I’ll just relax in my backyard while they play)
  • Create a healthy breakfast
  • Make my coffee & relax while I enjoy it
  • Listen to a motivational podcast (QOD is my fave to start the day)
  • Organize (I LOVE organizing)
  • Create something (i.e. create a recipe, make jewelry, draw…)
  • Make my bed
  • Sit outside in the sunshine
  • Get extra rest (I’ve learned the oh so important lesson of not running myself down)

 

That’s it! Often the biggest game changers in life are the simplest.

Now it’s your turn: write out a list of everything that you LOVE to do, and all the things that make you feel GOOD. Not for anyone else, but for YOU. Feel free to use any of my ideas above! It can be as detailed or as simple as you want. Decide that you’re going to start your day with 3-5 of these things first thing after waking up, and make it non-negotiable. Stick with it, and before you know it, this new habit will simply become who you are!

    I love the idea of a list to choose from! I was doing the same thing every day for a while and just like you said, I got so bored and dreaded doing it! lol Going to use your ideas as a jumping off point for my own list. Thanks for the great tips! =)
