Years ago, before I realized that it's actually a really good idea to read the ingredients label on the food I was purchasing, I would always make homemade tacos with the packaged taco seasoning that you can find at any grocery store. It wasn't until I actually read the label that I realized that they add so many strange ingredients! MSG, whey solids, and maltodextrin…who really wants tacos with any of that?!

I always have this homemade taco seasoning on hand for making all of my favorite taco creations!

DIY Taco Seasoning Ingredients

Use this super easy clean-ingredient DIY taco seasoning recipe and never buy store-bought taco seasoning again! This seasoning blend takes just minutes and is made with the following ingredients that you likely have on hand:

  • Chili powder
  • Cumin
  • Paprika
  • Garlic powder
  • Onion powder
  • Cayenne pepper
  • Sea salt
  • Black pepper

This is a mild taco seasoning, if you would like to add a kick to your spice mix, add more cayenne pepper.

Ways To Use Homemade Taco Seasoning

This homemade seasoning is now a staple in my house, and I always keep a jar of it on hand for super quick and easy dinners. This recipe is enough for 2 pounds of meat, so feel free to double or triple it so that you always have plenty on hand!

Homemade taco seasoning will last about 6 months stored in a cool, dry place like your spice cupboard or pantry. No worries, though, you'll definitely end up using it up!
